We all know that I’m the biggest fan of my home state, California.
There are endless incredible places to visit and some of the most scenic places in all fifty states (IMHO).
And a visit to Newport Beach, California is probably toward the top of that list!
It’s a gorgeous little gem of a coastal town and there are so many ways to spend your time enjoying it.

Things to do in Newport Beach
Sometimes I feel like Newport Beach is a place where you can do nothing and pass a day perfectly pleasantly.
It’s so easy to find a beautiful beach or park and just while away the hours!
But let’s get more specific, because there are so many great things to do in Newport Beach.
Beaches. Obviously at the top of the list are the beautiful beaches in Newport!
One of my favorites is Crystal Cove beach. The beach is beautiful, wide, soft sand – perfect for playing with kids, building sandcastles, beach walks, and more.
Nearby are some great little shops to explore and places to eat. It’s super fun to get a burger and a shake up at the Shake Shack and overlook the beach while you eat.
Hiking. There are some beautiful hiking trails around Newport, especially some near the coast with beautiful views and fresh ocean air.
Duffy Boat Rentals. You can rent a little Duffy boat for a few hours and captain your own adventure out on the harbor! Such a fun adventure for a day.
Whale Watching. If you’re in Newport Beach during whale watching season, book a tour and witness these beautiful creatures migrating for the season.
Fashion Island. Even if you’re not a big shopper, Fashion Island is a beautiful place to hang out and find a drink or a snack. And if you like shopping, don’t miss this spot!
Visit Balboa Island While You’re in Newport
Even though it’s a quick drive, visiting Balboa Island feels like a different world.
It’s a charming world unto itself!
If you’re looking for food on Balboa, grab a bite at Wilma’s. It’s been there for decades and is an island staple.
After that, wander down the street and get a frozen banana or a Balboa bar — it’s pretty much required snacking.
On Balboa, once you’ve strolled up and down the main street, take a walk around the neighborhood and enjoy the beautiful homes!
After that, hop on the ferry to the peninsula and hit the Balboa Fun Zone. You can play at the arcade, ride a few rides, and watch the skimboarders as you walk out on the pier.
It’s also awesome to have access to some water toys while you’re on the island. Rent a kayak or some paddleboards and paddle around the island.
Keep an eye out for seals and sea lions sunning themselves on the docked boats!

Although as an Australian, I must ask – what’s a ‘hand pie’? I’ve never heard that term before!
Trips are the best way to celebrate an anniversary and Balboa Island is the cutest spot! (especially around Christmas) We also tend to leave town on major holidays to avoid any local hype. Near or far, traveling is always fun!
