Flowers for Dinner

Happy May Day! When I was in elementary school, every May Day my mom would help me pick a little bouquet from our garden to give to my school bus driver. Did you ever do that thing where you would pick a bouquet, wrap a wet paper towel around the bottom of the stems, and then wrap foil around that? I can’t remember who taught us that. I also have no idea if it actually kept the flowers hydrated! But it was a valiant effort either way.

But I digress! In any case, here’s my grownup version of spreading flowers around to celebrate May Day. I was in the studio playing with some of Flower Muse’s colorful stems and I got this idea of “flowers for dinner.” It’s essentially just an excuse to have lots of pretty blooms on the table! Perfect for May Day, Mother’s Day, or just any day that you want to dress up your table settings. Grab a few fluffy flowers and tuck them under the rims of your guests’ dinner plates to create a kind of floral plate charger. Sprinkle some edible petals (carnations are perfect for this one!) on their plates. And tuck a bloom or two into their spoons. It’s so pretty you could serve boxed Mac n’ Cheese for dinner and nobody would notice!
